Before Niagara
With neither track nor cross country offered at his school, Ethan originally participated in basketball for 4 years and soccer for 5 (the latter of which he was awarded the Section V Player of the Year in 2014). In the spring of 2015, Graves became a “team of one” as the only track & field athlete for Whitesville High School (NY), making an immediate impact on Section V by winning both the 400 and 800 in the Class Championship before receiving the Section V Outstanding Male Athlete Award. In 2016 (only his second season) he solidified his talent at the middle-distances when he again won the 800  in the Section V Class Championship, but also added a 2^nd place in the 1600 with a PR of 4:32. His senior year finished in spectacular fashion with an additional win in the 800 at the Section V State Qualifier Meet (with a 1:57.18 PR) before finally placing 4^th in the 800 at the NYSPHSAA State Championship.
