ARLINGTON, Va. – Despite recording a season-high 15 hits, the Purple Eagles (2-15) were defeated by George Washington (10-10), 10-6, in their series finale with the Colonials on Sunday.
Game Recap
- The Colonials scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
- An RBI double from Cole Tucker in the top of the third frame left NU down by only two runs, 3-1.
- The Colonials, however, had two homeruns in the bottom of the third and extend their lead, 6-1.
- Two more homers from George Washington in the fourth and fifth put the Colonials ahead by seven, 8-1.
- Niagara's offense started heating up in the top of the sixth inning. Cole O'Connor had a three-RBI triple and Tucker had another RBU double to put the Purple Eagles within three runs of the Colonials, 8-5.
- George Washington added one run in the bottom of the sixth to lead NU by four, 9-5.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Niagara cut GW's lead back to three, 9-6, after an RBI single from Vincent Mauro.
- NU, however, remained scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Colonials scored one more run in the eighth to win the game, 10-6, and sweep the three-game series.
Eagle's Eye On
- Matt Ward led the Purple Eagles with three hits, while O'Connor, Tucker, Mauro and Benny Serrano each had two.
- O'Connor had a team-high three RBIs and Tucker had two.
- O'Connor and Tucker each had one stolen base.
- Marcus Cashman (0-2) took the loss. He struck out one and allowed six runs on five hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
- Chaz DeLuca fanned three in 1.2 innings of relief.
