Men's Hoops Adds ECAC Freshman Of The Year To Incoming Class

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles have announced the addition of Kevin Larkin to the incoming men's basketball recruiting class.

"We are excited to add Kevin to our program," head coach Chris Casey said.  "He has demonstrated the ability to shoot and score the ball in his young career and he will only get better.  He has good size and athleticism at the guard position. We expect him to be an important contributor on both ends of the floor."

Larkin, a 6-foot-5 guard from Lincoln, Delaware played his freshman season at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, an NCAA Division II program which plays in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Larkin finished his freshman campaign as the top scoring freshman in Division II, averaging 17.8 points per game. He posted nine 20-point games, including netting a career-high 25 points on three separate occasions, while finishing third in the PSAC in scoring, second in 3-point field goals per game (2.8), sixth in field goal percentage (.476) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (.407). Larkin also averaged 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Larkin was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Freshman of the Year; the ECAC consists of 33 NCAA Division II members from 10 conferences. Larkin was the only PSAC player to earn a postseason honor from the ECAC. Larkin was named to the Division II Boxtorow All-America Third Team, and picked up PSAC East Rookie of the Year and All-PSAC Second Team honors.

"I chose Niagara because I have a great relationship with the coaches and I feel they want what is best for me," Larkin said.

Prior to Cheyney, Larkin was a standout at Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown, Delaware. Larkin earned first team all-conference and all-state honors while ranking in the top five in the state in scoring during his junior and senior seasons.
