Patterson Picks Up Second Consecutive AHA Student-Athlete Of The Year Honor

HAVERHILL, Mass. – Sophomore defenseman Kevin Patterson has earned Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Student-Athlete of the Year honors for the second consecutive season announced on Monday.

Patterson, who is majoring in sport management, is one of eight student-athletes to be named AHA Student-Athlete of the Year by posting a 4.0 or better grade-point average during the season. Patterson is joined by American International's Matthew Cassidy, Bryant Christian, Carson Grolla and Chris Porter, Canisius' Geoff Fortman, RIT's Alexander Kugali and Robert Morris' David Rigati.

"Kevin has done a tremendous job for our program on the ice and more importantly in the classroom," head coach Dave Burkholder said. "He is involved with student government and leads us in community service projects. For those and many more reasons are why he will be one of our captains for the upcoming season."

Niagara placed 15 student-athletes to the 2014-15 AHA All-Academic Team. Joining Patterson on the All-Academic team are Tyler Akeson @, Robert Angiolella, Matt Chartrain, Mike Conderman, Adrian Ignagni, Isaac Kohls, Dan Kolenda #, Chris Lochner, Phillip Nasca @, Chris Paulin #, Stephen Pietrobon, Derian Plouffe, Lawrence Smith and Hugo Turcotte.  

In its 12th year of existence, Atlantic Hockey has continued its high standard in the class­room for student-athletes, as 190 have earned a spot on the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team. This season 100 student-athletes have been named multiple times on the All-Academic Team, with 18 players earning their fourth appearance. In addition, 39 are appearing for the third time, while 43 are being honored for the second time.

To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in all of the academic semesters during which his team was actively competing. Atlantic Hockey's Top Scholar Athlete is an award given annually to the player or players who achieves the highest grade point average over the course of the academic se­mesters of competition.
