Purple Eagles Bring In Highly Touted Recruit To Men’s Basketball Program

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara University men's basketball program has added Marvin Prochet as the eighth member of the 2015 recruiting class announced on Thursday.
 
"Marvin comes from an outstanding program and has great versatility as a player," head coach Chris Casey said.  "He can score the ball in a variety of ways and guard multiple positions. He has character, a strong work ethic, and will be a positive contributor to our program immediately."  
 
Prochet, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward from Brooklyn, New York, was highly sought after by several programs in the last few years. He had interest from power programs such as Arizona, Georgetown, St. John's, VCU, Dayton and Minnesota. He eventually received offers from Fordham, Hofstra, Seton Hall, Maine, St. Francis, Farleigh Dickson, MAAC-rivals Iona, Quinnipiac and Monmouth, and little 3 foe St. Bonaventure.
 
Prochet spent his first two years at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. before playing is junior and senior years for the Long Island Lutheran Crusaders under head coach John Buck.
 
In his first year at LuHi, he averaged 12 points per game and eight boards per contest on his way to earning team MVP honors. The Crusaders, who were the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) champions, advanced to the New York State Federation Class AA Final after downing Green Tech behind Prochet's 26 points and 15 rebounds. LuHi finished the season with a 21-5 record.
 
Prochet picked up individual accolades during the season. At the 22nd annual Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic Tournament in Binghamton, NY., he led the tournament in rebounds in a field consisting of teams including Christ the King and New Rochelle. He was named the MVP at the Big Apple Basketball Invitational with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a win over New Jersey power Linden.
 
After missing the first two months of his senior season due to injury, Prochet returned to averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game. The Crusaders once again advanced to the state semifinals and finished with a 19-7 record. Prochet played on the AAU national circuit with New Heights (New York) where he averaged 9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
