Men’s Basketball Inks Barton To NLI

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles have added their fourth signee to the 2015 class with Chris Barton joining the program.

"We are excited about Chris joining us," head coach Chris Casey said.  "He is a strong, athletic guard with a great future. He has the ability to score and should also make an immediate impact on the defensive end."

Barton, a 6-foot-3 guard from Auburn Hills, Michigan, was stat-stuffer for the Avondale High School Yellow Jackets during his senior campaign. Barton averaged 20 points per game, a team-leading eight rebounds per game, four assists per game and two steals per game while shooting 44 percent from behind the arc.

Barton helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 20-4 overall record including a Class A district championship. Barton was clutch in the championship game, scoring a game-high 26 points and draining a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift Avondale past Troy Athens for the Yellow Jackets' first district title since 2002.

Barton was named to the MLive All-State Class A Honorable Mention Team, the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Class A All-State Team, and the Detroit Free Press All-North Second Team. Barton also picked up accolades from the Oakland Activities Association (First Team), the Oakland Press (All-County First Team) and was named to the BCAM's Top 20 Shooter list.

Barton received interest from Detroit and Youngstown State.
