NCAA ReleaseINDIANAPOLIS – The Niagara University Department of Athletics had 11 of its 18 teams earn a multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) score at or higher than the national average, including five programs – women's cross country, men's cross country, women's basketball, men's golf and women's track and field – scoring a perfect APR as announced on Wednesday.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 965 to a perfect 1,000. 17 NU teams' scores ranged between those two numbers. All 18 programs earned scores above the 930 NCAA benchmark.
The women's cross country program scored a 1000 for the fifth straight report while the men's country team posted a 1000 score for the fourth straight report. This is the second straight report women's basketball and men's golf had a perfect score.
11 programs had APR scores at or above the national average in their respective sport: women's cross country (1000), men's golf (1000), men's cross country (1000), men's tennis (990), women's basketball (1000), women's track and field (1000), women's swimming and diving (990), women's soccer (986), women's volleyball (993), softball (983), and men's swimming and diving (979).
