Men’s Basketball Adds Collier To Incoming Class

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's basketball program added its second signing of the year in Romero Collier.

"Romero is as competitive as they come. He was an outstanding basketball player and football player during his high school career," head coach Chris Casey said.  "As he concentrates exclusively on basketball in college, he will blossom.  We are excited to have him in the program."

Collier was a two-sport star at Henninger High School in Syracuse, N.Y. Collier was a three-time All-Central New York selection at point guard and played on both sides of the ball for the football team. As a senior, Collier led the Black Knights' football and basketball teams to Section III Class AA championship where he was named MVP in both championship games.

On the hardwood, Collier averaged 16.9 points per game and 9.9 assists per game during his senior campaign while leading the team to a 21-2 record. He was named All-CNY Player of the Year for large schools and earned New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) Class AA all-state third time honors.

On the gridiron, Collier played both quarterback and defensive back for the Black Knights. Collier led Henninger to an 11-1 record, to its first sectional title in six years and the Black Knights' first state semifinal appearance since 2000. He threw for 1,406 yards and 21 touchdowns while accounting for eight rushing touchdowns. He was named Central New York's Mr. Football.

"(Niagara) is the best fit for me. I love the campus and it's not too far from home," Collier said. "When I visited, the coaches and players made me feel at home."

Collier received interest from LIU Brooklyn, St. John's and TCU.
