NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a dominating 7-0 win over the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks on Tuesday.
The Purple Eagles (14-7) picked up their third 7-0 win of the season and improved to 7-3 at home. Niagara eased to the doubles point by taking all three matches, led by the No. 1 duo of
Hilary Hansen and
Maria Ortiz who won its team-best 15th match. In singles action, Hansen,
Sarah Hellstern, Ashley Ta, Ortiz and
Jenna McCune all won in straight sets, while
Viki Sardellitti outlasted her opponent in a third set tie-breaker to complete the sweep.
Niagara now turns its attention to the MAAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday when it plays Marist. The Purple Eagles, who finished in a three-way tie for first place, will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament. NU was edged by Marist, 4-3, in the conference finale last Saturday.
