EDISON, N.J. – Freshman
Sarah Hellstern was named MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award for the second time this season.
Hellstern continued her winning streak to start her career by taking all four singles matches as the Niagara Purple Eagles went 3-1 in matches in Virginia and Maryland last week. Hellstern is now 10-0 in singles matches to begin her career. She played in her first three-set match when she defeated George Mason’s Kiersten Pappas, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Hellstern had little trouble winning the last three matches during the Purple Eagles’ road trip. She won 6-0, 6-1 against Hampton, 6-0, 6-0 versus Coppin State and 6-2, 6-2 against Morgan State. Hellstern and her doubles partner
Iva Celan won three of their four matches with the lone blemish coming on Sunday against Morgan State.
Hellstern earned her first player of the week award on March 5.
The Purple Eagles return home this weekend to host conference foes Siena and Loyola.
