NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Senior outside hitter
Kari Honomichl had a solid weekend for the Niagara women’s volleyball team, helping the Purple Eagles to a 2-1 record at the Patriot Invitational at Fairfax, Va. to earn Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
In the opening day of the tournament against Navy and host, George Mason, Honomichl led both matches in kills. In the five-set victory over Navy, she tied a match-best with 19 kills, had nine digs and two assists. In the sweep over George Mason, the Petersburgh, Mich. native once again led the match with 12 kills.
In the loss to undefeated South Carolina the following day, Honomichl dominated the opening set with a .667 hitting percentage to go along with a set-high nine kills. She finished the match with a season-high .311 hitting percentage and a match-high 18 kills which are the second most for her this season and the most in a four-set match.
The senior wrapped up the weekend with 49 kills, 23 digs and four service aces.
The Purple Eagles head to Ohio University this weakened to take part in the Bobcat Invitational, where they will face Ohio, Montana State and Belmont.
