NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Through year-long fundraising, including the 2012 SLAMphoma! event, the Niagara softball team raised over $4K dollars to benefit Kaely Kwitek, an Orchard Park High School student who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.
Through the SLAMphoma! event, 50/50 raffles and t-shirt sales, the softball team were able to raise $4,500 to offset medical costs that were incurred by the Kwitek's.
"I'm so proud of the team for what they were able to do," recently retired head coach Al Dirschberger said. "We were able to give back to the community that gives so much to us."
The Purple Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 15-30, while going 7-9 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
