NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Freshman guard
Meghan McGuinness of the Niagara women's basketball team was named the Student-Athlete of the Week after her solid performances on the court helped the Purple Eagles to a 1-1 record after conference play last week.
McGuinness led the way for Niagara in the 54-52 victory over the Saint Peter's Peahens last Thursday to sweep the season series. She set a career-high with 22 points surpassing her previous record of 13 that she set against the Peahens during the Jan. 9 contest.
Ten of McGuinness's 22 points were netted in the 13-2 run in the second half to build the Purple Eagles' lead to a 50-35 margin.
In the nailbiting loss to cross-town rival Canisius on Saturday, the Lincroftt, N.J. native contributed nine points, including going three-for-six at three-point range.
Niagara is back on the court this Friday, Feb. 10, kicking off their final road trip of the season against the Manhattan Jaspers at 7 p.m.
