Giancarlo Iuorio was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week after leading the offense for the No. 18 Niagara hockey team with a five-point weekend in a pair of AHA contests against the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
Iuorio helped the Purple Eagles (10-2-3; 9-0-0 AHA) extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games with three goals and two assists.
In the 5-3 victory over the Pioneers on Friday, Nov. 30, Iuorio picked up his tenth goal of the season with the game-tying tally, and then contributed a helper in the game-winning goal scored by linemate
Ryan Murphy. Iuorio solidified the win for the Purps with the team’s fifth goal of the evening.
The following day, Iuorio contributed a score and a helper in the 5-2 win over Sacred Heart to remain undefeated in AHA play.
The Richmond Hill, Ont. native wrapped up the weekend with 11 shots on goal and a plus-three mark. He has registered a team-leading 12 goals and 20 points this season and has added eight assists. He is currently on a three-game point streak, earning four goals and three assists in that span.
Iuorio and the Purple Eagles host the RIT Tigers on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Dwyer Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m.
