CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded its involvement in the 2012 All-Catholic Invitational on Saturday.
After two days of competition, the men came out with a 5-1 record, earning their only loss to the host, Boston College. The women wrapped up the event with a 6-1-1 record, falling to Boston College and drawing with Siena. Complete team scores are listed below.
Shane Baxter is continuing his sophomore season on a strong note, earning two more first place finishes that clocked in as meet records. He finished the 100-yard backstroke in 52.44 and swam the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.47. The sophomore, along with
Carl Roycroft, Brian Sawma and
Nathanial Resila, also earned a second place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 138.43.
Sawma earned his own first place finish in the 100-yard fly, clocking in at 54.17. He place fifth in the 200-yard butterfly as well with a time of 2:04.32.
The Purple Eagles also had strong efforts from Roycroft who completed the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.30 for a fourth place finish, while
Jason Ellis and
Joshua Remaniak placed in the 500-yard freestyle, with a second and fifth place finish, respectively.
Alex Siuda,
Brady Small, Ellis and
Eric Ebert found success in the 400-yard freestyle relay, concluding the event in 3:24.95.
The women's side saw several Purple Eagles nab impressive finishes in day two of the invitational.
Aubrey Kettrick earned a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.16), and the 50-yard freestyle (25.23).
Julia Bulmahn also clocked in for two second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.34), and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.26).
Lindsey Jackson placed fifth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:52.92, while
Ashley Harrington clocked in at 1:02.37 in the 100-yard butterfly for a fourth place finish.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Harrington,
Clare Curran,
Emily York and Kettrick combined for a 3:46.66 time, which was good enough for second place.
The Purple Eagles had solid showings from the divers as well.
Austin Devlin led the men with a third place finish in the one-meter dive, as well as the three-meter dive.
Faith O'Malley placed sixth in both the three-meter event and the one-meter. Hughes finished the three-meter dive in eighth place, and grabbed a tenth place finish in the one-meter.
Amy Pokelwaldt also placed in both events, earning a tenth place finish in the three-meter event, and a twelfth
place finish in the one-meter dive.
The Purple Eagles are back in the pool next Saturday, Oct. 27 when they take on Cleveland State and Gannon at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
