Friday's Results
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams took to the pool today in the All Catholic Invitational at Boston College, wrapping up the first day of competition in the pool.
Both squads had several strong individual showings, along with impressive relay outcomes with top five finishes.
“The team had a very strong presence tonight," head coach
Ben Nigro said. "They out cheered and out swam the other schools.”
On the men's side, sophomore
Shane Baxter earned a first place finish in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 1:57.30 for a new meet record. In the 1000-yard freestyle, two members of NU grabbed finishes in the top four as
Jason Ellis earned a second place finish (10:17.04), and
Joshua Remaniak grabbed fourth with his time of 10:24.61.
The 400-yard medley relay consisting of Baxter,
Carl Roycroft, Brian Sawma and
Eric Ebert clocked in at 3:36.63 for finish in second, while the 200-yard freestyle relay saw
Nathanial Resila, Ellis,
Tyler McCrobie and
Alex Siuda earn fourth (1:32.15).
For the women,
Aubrey Kettrick finished the 100-yard freestyle in second place with her time of 53.81.
The women also had an impressive showing in the relay events as
Julia Bulmahn,
Erica Crane,
Lindsey Jackson and Kettrick made up the 400-medly relay team that clocked in at 4:08.17 for third place.
Ashley Harrington, Emily York,
Emily Kisloski and
Chelsea O'Laughlin swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.19 for fourth place
There are nine women’s squads participating—Boston College, Assumption, Holy Cross, Iona, LeMoyne, Niagara, Providence, Regis and Siena, while the seven squads from the men's side include Boston College, Holy Cross, Iona, LeMoyne, Niagara, Providence and Regis.
Team scores will be tabulated at the end of competition tomorrow.
Action wraps up tomorrow as the diving portion will begin at 9 a.m., with the swimming competitions starting at 11 a.m.
