NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Senior goaltender
Chris Noonan of the Niagara men’s hockey team, was the driving force behind the Purple Eagles’ weekend sweep of the Army Black Knights, earning him Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
Noonan was solid in net, going 2-0-0, while stopping 67 of 68 shots for a 0.50 goals-against average and a .985 save percentage. He stymied 38 of 39 shots during Niagara’s 5-1 win over Army on Friday, while pushing aside all 29 Black Knight attempts on net for his second career shutout in a 3-0 win on Saturday.
As of Monday, the Portage, Mich. native is ranked second nationally in save percentage (.934) and sixth in GAA (1.99).
Niagara continues its four-game homestand next weekend as they face off against the American International Yellow Jackets starting on Friday, Jan. 20 and wrapping up the following day. Both games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start.
