NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - In front of family and friends, four new members were inducted into the Niagara University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon for their outstanding athletic careers on Monteagle Ridge. The 2009 Hall of Fame class included Mary Cutia (Women's Lacrosse), Amy Getman (Women's Basketball), Paul Laper (Football) and Tania Pinelli (Women's Hockey).
Cutia ('00) was an integral part of the first lacrosse win in Niagara history, as well as the first MAAC Championship berth during her senior year. Cutia set numerous school records in her senior year, notching 52 of her 171 career goals.
Getman ('01) came to Niagara as a role player and quickly became one of the greatest scorers in Niagara history. Getman finished third all-time in scoring (1,687) and finished tied for second in career points per game (15.9). The 2001 graduate also holds the career free throw mark at Niagara, making 510 during her career.
Laper ('51) was a member of the 1950 football team that went 6-3-0 on the season, which included victories over rival Buffalo, Brooklyn and Scranton. Following his career at Niagara, Laper continued to contribute to his alma-mater through various ways, including being a life-long season ticket holder for the men's basketball team.
Pinelli ('02) is Niagara's career leader in shutouts (24), goals against average (2.17), save percentage (.925), and wins (67). The 2002 graduate was named an All-American as well as ECAC Goaltender of the Year and a Top-10 Candidate for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as a senior.
