7/23/2010

Coach Ben Nigro

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara swimming and diving teams will take on some tough competition throughout the 2010-11 season, highlighted by three home meets and the 2011 MAAC Championships in Buffalo.

For the third straight season, the Purple Eagles will kick off the season at the Western New York Invitational (Oct. 9), before traveling to Ohio to take on Cleveland State (men's and women's) along with the women's teams from Butler and St. Francis of Pennsylvania (Oct. 15).

Niagara opens up its home portion of the 2010-11 schedule against Fredonia (Oct. 22), with the women's team traveling to Ohio to take on Youngstown State the next day (Oct. 23). The Purple Eagles compete in their second home meet of the season when they take on MAAC foe Siena (Nov. 6).

The Purple Eagles close out the remainder of the 2010 calendar year on the road against Buffalo (Nov. 13), Waterloo (Nov. 20) and at Akron's Zippy Invitational (Dec. 3-5) for the fourth consecutive year.

Niagara starts out the 2011 calendar year on the road against Binghamton (Jan. 14), before hosting cross-town rival Canisius (Jan. 22) for the first time since the 2008-09 season, where Niagara swept both contests. The Purple Eagles round out the regular season with a road contest against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure.

Niagara University will co-host the 2011 MAAC Championships (Feb. 17-19) at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Eric Community College. The 2011 MAAC Championships will mark the first conference championship meet for swimming and diving that has been held in New York since 2000.
