NIAGARA UN, N.Y. – The women’s hockey team (10-18-6, 5-6-1 CHA) nabbed a pair of College Hockey America postseason accolades at the CHA Banquet, Thursday, as senior goaltender Allison Rutledge (London, Ont.) earned Co-Student-Athlete of the Year and head coach Margot Page was recognized as Co-Coach of the Year.
Rutledge, a social studies education major, picked up one of the four major postseason honors after leading the nation with 1,006 saves. Her 2.61 goals-against average and .919 save percentage rank second in the conference, while her 3,392 career saves rank second on the NCAA all-time list. This season the senior ranks second in the nation in minutes (2,046) and tied for 15th in save percentage. The netminder also picked up CHA All-Academic honors for the third-straight year and was a unanimous selection to the CHA First Team earlier this week. She shared the award with Mercyhurst senior forward Julia Colizza.
Page returned to the Purple Eagles bench this past fall after spending the 2005-06 campaign as an assistant coach with Canada’s Gold Medal winning Olympic team. She helped Niagara improve its conference winning percentage by 17 percent and its goal differential in the league by four. Page, who was named ECAC Coach of the Year for the 2001-02 season, earned the CHA honor for the first time, sharing it with Wayne State head coach Jim Fetter.
Niagara faces Wayne State in the semifinal round of the CHA Tournament, March 2, at Island Sports Center.
