EDISON, N.J. - Eighty-nine Niagara University student-athletes were named to the 2008-09 MAAC Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, a list that includes 990 athletes from 17 institutions.
Niagara had the fifth most student-athletes on the list amongst the full and associate members of the MAAC, including sophomore Jacy Schultz (Middleburg Heights, Ohio), who had the highest grade-point average on the list with a 4.26. During the 2008-09 season, 66 percent of Niagara student-athletes had a grade-point average of a 3.0 or higher.
"I'm proud of our student-athletes' commitment in the classroom," Niagara Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin said. "Student-athletes like Jacy are some of the best students that Niagara University has to offer. It is a pleasure to work with a collective group of student-athletes who take their academics so seriously."
To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be in his or her scond year of athletic eligibility. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC with athletes represented in all 24 sports that the conference sponsors.
