LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Niagara men's and women's tennis teams earned their second MAAC wins of the season with convincing victories over Rider on Saturday. The men's team toppled the Broncs, 6-1, and the women's team blanked Rider, 7-0.
The Niagara men's team (8-6, 2-1 MAAC) won its sixth out of seven matches with the win today. The Purple Eagles swept all three doubles matches. Niagara's No. 1 pari Jeremy Quiroz and Mattew Kane and its No. 3 pair David Lemieux-Sarrasin and John Baird each won their matches 8-2. Joseph Zelic and Jordan Tedesco-Blair defeated John Spellman and Milo Milosovici, 8-7 (10-5).
In singles action, the Purple Eagles' top five all won their matches in straight sets.
The Niagara women's team (4-12, 2-1 MAAC) won consecutive matches for the first time this season. Niagara swept the doubles matches, highlighted by the No. 3 team Emma Cunnington and Julia Gray winning 8-1.
The Purple Eagles dominated in singles action; Racquel Solis, Alyssa Lucas and Brittany Walters all won 6-0, 6-0. Hilary Hansen and Cunnington only dropped one set en route to 6-1, 6-0 victories.
The men's team heads to central Florida for matches against Stetson on Monday and Jacksonville and UMKC on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The women's team will make a trip to Michigan to play Oakland on Monday and Wayne State on Tuesday.
