NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The preliminary voting phase for this season’s Hobey Baker Memorial Award is nearing its end, with Niagara University senior captain Barret Ehgoetz and senior forward Ryan Gale among the top 15 vote getters.
With the preliminary voting phase ending Sunday, fans may visit www.HobeyBaker.com, casting one ballot per day for their first-, second- and third-place choices for the Hobey Baker Award. The fan vote, combined with the votes of the 58 Division I head coaches, will determine the 10 finalists for this season’s award.
Ehgoetz, from Kincardine, Ont., currently has the most votes of any player from the College Hockey America conference. Standing 10th in fan balloting, Ehgoetz leads the CHA with 43 points on 15 goals and a career-high 28 assists. Already this season, the senior captain broke the Niagara all-time mark for points (163), goals (70) and assists (93) in a career. Ehgoetz currently stands as the all-time leading scorer in CHA history.
Setting career highs for points, goals and assists in a season, Gale leads the Purple Eagles in goals with 20. The St. Catharines, Ont., native is among the national leaders in goals, shorthanded goals (3) and game-winning goals (5). Only the eighth Niagara player to break the 20-goal plateau in a single season, Gale has added 14 assists for 34 points. He stands 10th in school history in career goals with 36.
The Purple Eagles conclude the 2004-05 regular season this weekend, hosting Robert Morris University in a two-game series at Dwyer Arena.
