Golf Teams Trail After Day One at MAACs

CELEBRATION, Fla. - The Niagara men's and women's golf teams both completed the first of three rounds at the 2010 MAAC Championships on Friday. Both teams are in last place, as the men's team is in ninth place, while the women's team in in sixth place.

A pair of underclassmen are leading the way for their respective teams. Freshman Brittany Siechen is tied for 20th place after a 16-over-par 88, while sophomore Trevor Kenney sits in a tie for 34th place with a 9-over-par 81.

The men's team four-man total of 343 is 26 shots behind eighth place Manhattan. Siena leads the way with a 300. On the women's side, Siena is also the leader with a 317, while NU carded a 422.

Senior Jason Polka sits in 39th place with a round one 82. Juniors Kelly Robinson and Jeremy Christie both recorded a 90, tieing for 47th place, while senior Joe Tonnos tallied a 96 to finish day one in 49th place.

Saint Peter's Sean Fitzpatrick was the lone golfer under par with a 4-under 68. He has a four-stroke lead after day one.

Junior Ona Peck carded a 110, while freshman Megan Bruso tallied a 111 followed by Katie Hamilton's 113 and Sarah Hanley's 120.

Siena's Bridget Carr, the two-time defending champion, leads after day one with a 2-over-par 74.
