The purpose of SAAC is to give a voice to student-athletes by seeking their input on pertinent NCAA and Niagara University legislative issues and policies. Meetings provide a forum for student-athletes to voice their concerns and determine solutions to implement positive change. Goals of SAAC are to increase student-athlete awareness, improve student-athlete welfare, encourage support for athletic teams to promote spirit, and serve the campus and surrounding communities through various events and service projects.
Description:
The SAAC is a group of representatives from all varsity sports at Niagara University. Each team has two representatives, preferably one upperclassman (Junior, Senior) and one underclassman (Frosh, Sophomore), chosen to represent their team's' views, concerns and collective voice on issues within Athletics as well as outside the department. SAAC will also represent the Athletics programs to other groups on and off campus.
Purpose:
The SAAC serves two very important functions: 1) Student-athletes voices are heard and can address specific issues affecting them; and 2) Communication between athletics administration and students is open, promoting better understanding of student-athletes needs.
Role:
The SAAC will function within the athletics program, under the supervision of the Director of Athletics. Through regular meetings throughout the academic year, the SAAC will address specific issues and assist in athletic department strategic planning, goal setting and evaluating for our program. Feedback from SAAC should represent views of all student-athletes at Niagara University.
Responsibility:
Members of SAAC are required to attend all meetings, twice per month. Members are selected because of their ability to represent their teams and articulate concerns and views which promote effective communication, planning and production.
Goals:
Aside from goals and objectives identified by SAAC, one primary goal will be to facilitate communication between student-athletes and athletics administration.
