STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Niagara men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a dominating 7-0 win over the Wagner Seahawks on Friday.
 
NU’s six-match win streak is the program’s longest since winning eight consecutive matches in the spring of 2003.
 
The Purple Eagles (10-6) started the match by winning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles tandem of David Raymond and Olivier Dufour-Coursol defeated Taylor Santoro and Chris Rautenstrauch, 8-3, for their fifth straight win. The seldom used, but efficient team of Brandon Gallegos and Matt Bojanowski cruised to an 8-1 win in three doubles to secure the doubles point and improve their record to 4-1.
 
Niagara won every single match in straight sets. Mike Mucci began the rout with a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles. Raymond and Elortegui followed with victories in No. 2 and No. 1 singles, respectively. Mathieu Lacasse and Gallegos eased to wins to stretch win streaks to four and five matches, respectively. However, it is Dufour-Coursol who sports the longest win streak on the team at six matches after dispatching Wagner’s (0-8) Sawyer Fonda, 6-2, 6-0.
 
“I wasn’t very pleased with the way we started. Our doubles play was flat and didn’t play with good discipline,” head coach Anthony Nguyen said. “We will have to change that and be ready to play tomorrow against a good Saint Peter’s.”
 
Niagara will step back into conference play against Saint Peter’s on Saturday.
