NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men’s tennis team fell to the NJIT Highlanders, 5-2, on Friday night.
“It’s a disappointing lost for the guys,” head coach Anthony Nguyen said. “We had our chances tonight, but you have to give NJIT credit. They handled the pressure situations better. Even though we lost, there were some encouraging signs. We will definitely learn from this match and get better from this.”
The Purple Eagles (4-4) were clipped by a few games in six of the nine matches, including two three-set matches in singles.
NU was on serve in No. 1 doubles at 7-7 before falling, 9-7. Niagara would go on to lose the doubles point. In singles action, the Purple Eagles grinded out a pair of wins. David Raymond topped NJIT’s (8-2) Holger Norregaard, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 1 singles and Olivier Dufour-Coursol came back from a set down to defeat Andres Alban, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, in No.3 singles.
