Buffalo News Article

The Niagara University Athletics Department announced the formation of the Niagara Sports Network (NSN), which will include television stations based in Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Rochester.  The new network will televise three men’s hockey games, a men’s basketball game and 13 weekly half-hour shows beginning in January.  The announcement marks the first time that locally-produced college athletics will air live in Western New York since March of 2004.

“This is a very exciting announcement for Niagara University Athletics and yet another signal of how serious we are about improving our external outreach to alumni, fans and potential student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin said. “We are making a serious financial commitment, but one whose benefits we feel will be very important to us moving forward.”

Produced by the Niagara Athletics Department, the network is made up of WNGS-TV in the Buffalo/Niagara region and Time Warner Sports Net in Rochester.  NSN will televise three away men’s hockey games (October 12th at Merrimack, January 5th at Cornell and January 26th at Quinnipiac) and two men’s basketball games (November 28th vs. St. Bonaventure and December 15th at St. John’s).

NSN will also carry 13 weeks of Sports Night Niagara, a weekly half-hour highlight show beginning in January with Jeff Russo serving as host. Niagara also plans to have all remaining home men’s basketball games telecast on either Lockport Cable or Time Warner Cable. Schedules are currently being finalized. Additionally, many men’s hockey, women’s hockey and women’s basketball games will also be televised on one of those cable outlets. A schedule is expected to be released shortly.
